Director - Christopher Nolan

He often films in a Art Noir style which complement the character in his films and the feelings he is trying to get across. Art nior style often uses low and directional, desaturation and a large amount of depth of field. This type of filming gives a very stylistic film and lends itself to psycho thrillers. The protagonist is always fuelled by revenge and has a psychotic nature which I feel really makes his films so compelling. I have found because of Nolan’s influences we have also represented the protagonist in the same light. We can manipulate his style by incorporating elements such as flashbacks of their past and giving our protagonist a psychological disorder.

Iconography & Conventions

These are the main conventions used and seen in an action film genre. The purpose of this video is to help us realise what conventions are used in a professional action movie and to help produce a professional looking film opening. Some of the features we looked at were colour correction, colour grading, camera shots, camera angles, depth of field, etc.

Billing Order

We will use the order of the titles here to help up do the titles of our own film as these are the conventions and how it should be done to help our work look like it is a film opening. Without it the audience might get confused and think it is a short film instead. There are lots of similar things between the three films which is the rules they followed to make it look like the start of a film.

Pros & Cons of 2 Genres

We are going to focus the rest of our research on action films because we think that we can overcome the difficulties of the genre better than horror. There are 3 boys in our group and 1 girl, and overall we watch more action than horror so have a better understanding of the types of conventions to use. Although we don't have a budget to spend on explosions we think we won't need one as it is just the opening sequence. It would be different if we were making the whole film - then horror would be easier to do properly as the location of empty houses and forests would be easier to find. Action will be difficult as the editing will be harder as there should be some action which means fast-paced, but we have people would good editing skills in our group so we think we will be ok.

Production Log - Group

During this week we had planned, filmed and edited the scenes from the preliminary task and the remake.

Daoud - In this week the work which i had to complete was the acting in the preliminary task and also on the remake. Also i had to do complete the synopsis for my group. Another aspect I had contributed with was help setting up the lighting in the re-make. Another thing which I had done was help the members in my group understand how to use and what to do on Blogger and on Scribd.

Vinay - During this week I had to do the filming, editing and directing for both the preliminary and the remake task. Another thing which I had contributed with was the lighting in the re-make while also doing the shallow focus which had been used with my steady cam.

Chirag - My part in the preliminary task was to create and layout the Script for the preliminary task. another thing which i had taken part in was my role of being an actor in the preliminary task. A thing which i had helped set up was the background which was a dark backdrop.

Janki - In the preliminary task my overall role was to be a back-up which had meant that I was meant to assist in anyway possible such as getting the Mise-en-scene in the scene. Another thing which was my role was to create the storyboards for the scenes.

Preliminary Task - Synopsis

The synopsis for the short opening scene which we are planning, filming and editing for our preliminary is about a student called Bromley arriving late to school. He runs towards his lesson which is located on the second floor of his school, but as he arrives late to the lesson he realises that the teacher has not decided to arrive and that he was not late, so he soon begins a conversation with a friend who delivers the ultimate heart wrenching moment that he has an exam within the next few days.

The short film sequence will use a bunch of different shot types such as two-shot, over the shoulder, panning, 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and match on action.
